April Salasen

April Salasen retells the Christmas stories that families around the world have passed down for generations, so that today’s children can hear them at bedtime.

Some are old folk tales told by grandparents by the fire. Some were first written down by authors long ago. Some grew out of customs that families still keep every December. She looks for the ones with a little kindness, a little courage and a little wonder in them, and tells them again in new words, short enough to read aloud before the lights go out.

Her first book, 25 Christmas Stories for Kids, is an Advent journey around the world: one story from a different country for every night from December 1 to 25.

25 Christmas Stories for Kids

25 nights. 25 countries. One story before bed.

Travel from a crooked cottage in Ireland to a desert road in Egypt, from a snowy Japanese village to a stormy harbor in Cornwall. Meet a little camel who could not keep up, a polar bear the trolls mistook for a giant cat, a fir tree who told stories to the mice, and a family who finally opened their door to the Befana.
